Tawau UMNO says Tan Sri Sipaun’s recent statement on Sabah “provocative and seditious”
TAWAU: A comment made by a former Suhakam vice chairman that life in Sabah in the yesteryears was far better than the present day, has not gone down well with the Umno division here.
Datuk Mohammad Jeffry Rosman, vice chairman of the Bureau of Relations and Public Complaints for Tawau Umno, said the comment by Tan Sri Simon Sipaun was confusing and seditious. He therefore urged Simon to retract the statement and apologise for his words.
Yesterday, Jeffry lodged a police report to urge Simon to withdraw his statement which Jeffry said could jeopardise unity in the state.
“We regret that he has made the statement which is provocative and can cause the people to have a misconception of the government. It is seditious. He should retract the statement and make an apology,” he said.
Jeffry also questioned Simon’s motive in making the statement while pointing out that he expressed such an opinion only after he was no longer with the Malaysian Human Rights Commission, Suhakam.
“Why now and not when he was still holding a post? He is still getting a pension from the government. What is his real motive?” he asked.
Jeffry said that Simon’s remarks on the administration in Sabah and Sarawak were sensitive and could cause the people to misunderstand the government.
“Don’t make comparisons and certainly, don’t make references to Umno that is present in Sabah but not in Sarawak. Who is he? Is he a politician? The people of Sabah are not so ignorant as to believe his words,” he added.
Jeffry said Sabah was under a sound administration and cited the rapid rate of development as an example.
