Crime : Posing as a policeman in Penampang

Kota Kinabalu: A 43-year-old local security guard was charged with two counts of robbing a woman and posing as a policeman early this month in Penampang.

Sawal Muhimin @ Muimin pleaded not guilty before High Court Deputy Registrar Marlina Ibrahim, who sat as a Sessions Court judge, to robbing the 20-year-old woman of a laptop, a broadband modem and a bag.

Sawal, of Taman Fajar, Menggatal, allegedly committed the offence by the roadside in Taman Merpati.

The first count falls under Section 392 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to 14 years and whipping, or fine, on conviction.

Marlina set May 3-4 for trial and released Sawal on a bail of RM5,000 in two local sureties.

The prosecution informed the court that about 21 witnesses would be called to testify in the hearing.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Sabrina Jinius appeared for the prosecution while Sawal was not represented.

Meanwhile, on the second count, Sawal also denied posing as a policeman by showing the same woman a pair of handcuffs.

Sawal is accused of committing the offence at 3.30pm on the same day and place.

Senior Assistant Registrar Lovely Natasha Charles, who sat as a magistrate, offered Sawal bail at RM1,500 in two sureties and fixed March 18 for mention to fix the hearing date.

Chief Inspector Ismail Mohammad Razali prosecuted the case.
