Crime : Wisma Sabah incident

KOTA KINABALU: Police have identified the suspects, who are youngsters, involved in the stabbing of the wife of a money-changer at Wisma Sabah here, Tuesday.

City police deputy chief Supt Ramli Ali Mat said that police are still searching for the two young suspects, one who stabbed the 72-year-old victim and the accomplice who drove the blue Honda CRV.



“We have a strong belief that the car is still in Kota Kinabalu and we are manning the roads to Papar, Inanam and Menggatal to prevent them from escaping,” he told a press conference at the city police headquarters yesterday.

Police believe the motive of the case was robbery and would be investigated under Section 394 and 395 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, as to the status of the victim, Ramli said that she was reported to be critical but stable.

He also said that there was only one bag of money in the car during the incident and was told by the witness that it contained between RM5,000 to RM6,000.

Ramli also urged the public not to panic and assured the people that the city is safe.

“The people of the Kota Kinabalu district shouldn’t worry. I guarantee that it is safe and we will release (to the press) any progress on the case,” he said.

The victim, 72, identified only as Lim, was reported to be in a car when her husband went into the building to open his business at around 9.40am.

One of the suspects then entered the car and demanded that she handed over the bag of money.

A struggle ensued when she resisted and she was stabbed five times in the chest, abdomen and hands before she managed to escape.

The victim then ran towards the building and collapsed at a stairway while the suspect drove off with the car.

The victim’s husband rushed her to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where she was warded in the intensive care unit in critical condition.

Police later recovered the car abandoned at Jalan Tanjung Lipat and believed that the suspect had been picked up by an accomplice in a dark blue CRV.
