KOTA KINABALU: Sabah DAP reiterated that only a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) can resolve the illegal immigrant problem in Sabah.
And if this ever becomes a reality in the future, Sabah DAP chief Jimmy Wong said the Commission should be headed by former vice chairman of Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) Tan Sri Simon Sipaun, as proposed by DAP national advisor Lim Kit Siang.
“DAP Sabah is optimistic that a RCI will serve its purpose well as even some component parties of BN are supporting its establishment,” he said.
He said this in response to the recent controversial statement made by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) President, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, that Pakatan Rakyat would accord Permanent Resident (PR) status to illegal immigrants in the state, as a solution to the problem.
Meanwhile Jinny said DAP Sabah leaders were not at the press conference during which Dr Wan Azizah was reported to have announced that Pakatan Rakyat would be giving PR status to illegal immigrants when the coalition comes to power.
