Crime : Filipino pleaded guilty having fake US$100 notes in Penampang



Kota Kinabalu: A 37-year-old Filipino, who is currently serving five months' jail for illegal entry, was jailed another two years by the Magistrate's Court here for having 370 pieces of fake US$100 notes in Penampang.

Magistrate Herlina Muse meted out the sentence to Helmi Mor, who was brought to her chambers Thursday, after he pleaded guilty to having the fake notes at 3pm on Feb 19 this year at a restaurant in Dongonggon.


The charge stated that Helmi knew the notes were fake and intended to use them as genuine currency.

He was charged under Section 489C of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, on conviction.

Helmi was arrested at the said place by police following information from the public.

Previously, Helmi was sentenced to five months' jail and given four strokes of the cane for entering the State illegally.

The court ordered the jail sentences to run consecutively.

In the same court, three local men were fined a total of RM7,400 for having drugs.

Paulus Joeseph, 42, was fined RM2,800 in default five months' jail for having 0.09gm of syabu at Inanam on Jan 22 this year.

John Wilfred, 30, was ordered to pay RM2,400 or five months behind bars for possessing 0.04gm of syabu at Penampang on Jan 24.

Meanwhile, Mohd Saiful Adli was fined RM2,200 or spend four months in prison for having 0.33gm of syabu at Jalan Sulaman on Jan 19.

Chief Inspector Ismail Mohammad Razali prosecuted the case.
